Artist Statement
"LIVE IN TECHNICOLOR"
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My goal as an artist is personal success. For me this means living and working where my creative juices are stimulated and allowed to flow naturally.
I celebrate the spirit of independent expression with every art work I create! To paint art in a traditional style would be a betrayal to my 'best friend'...the canvas...with whom I communicate all my thoughts and all my emotions.
I have often been referred to as an 'accidental artist'! what ends up as the final version is usually NOT what I had initially intended! Through many years of self-doubt and fear, I now exploit this uncertainty and fear. I did a series of paintings I called my "Sprout! Series," referring to my own personal growth as an artistic person. Teaching painting to children of all ages reminds me of a very important 'truth' in life...there is always something to be learned! Not only do I teach others, but they teach me! Picasso once said, when what art is, "What is not?" I fully agree.
Moving my Gallery of Expressionist art to a 'western' market was a 'beginning' for me, and indicative of the growth of modern art! I write creative descriptions for each art piece, relating the inspiration and story behind the piece. I want my public to enjoy what I have created...I want them to laugh, cry, feel, and 'see'! "Expressionism is a style of art in which the intention is not to reproduce a subject accurately, but instead to portray it in such a way as to express the inner state of the artist."
I hope you enjoy viewing my art as much as I have enjoyed creating it!
Sincerely,
Steven DeWitt Perrin
